Meghan Hanley is the COO of Thistledown, the family office of Tobias Lütke (Shopify) and Fiona McKean, based in Toronto, Canada. Thistledown is advancing technological solutions for decarbonization by helping prove, scale and commercialize climate technology both through long-term investments (Thistledown Capital) and philanthropy (Thistledown Foundation). Since 2020, Thistledown has built a $150M climate tech portfolio and invested over $33M in pandemic response and recovery, including $2M to every children’s hospital across Canada. Meghan also serves as Trustee of Waverley House, a private Canadian foundation that supports research for the identification and treatment of mental illness. Before joining Thistledown, Meghan spent 15 years at Global Affairs Canada, working in support of international development and security. In 2018, she donated 60% of her liver to save a young man’s life, and continues to coach prospective living organ donors. Meghan resides in Ottawa with her husband Peter and their three children. If she isn’t answering her phone, she’s probably in a kayak or on cross-country skis somewhere beautiful with spotty cell service.
