Investment Principal

Irene Yang handles US and Canadian investments as an Investment Principal with BASF Venture Capital, a global $250mn evergreen CVC fund investing in seed, Series A & B start-ups. Related to the chemical industry, we are looking for disruptive technologies and business models across agriculture, automotive and EV/battery value chains, home and personal care, textiles, packaging, plastics and mining & metals. Investments focus on decarbonization, circular economy, AgTech, new materials, hardware and software.

Joining BASF in 2013, Irene has also worked in BASF Asia Pacific and U.S., and held an earlier role of Director of Business Development & Innovation. Prior, Irene held Director of Product Management and Strategic Partnership roles with AMD and was a consultant with McKinsey. Irene earned her MS Engineering (Electrical and Computer Science) and MBA degrees from MIT (USA), and B. Eng. & Management degree from McMaster University (Canada).
