Professor
Gwenaelle is a professor in marine chemistry at the Institut des Sciences de la Mer at the Université du Québec à Rimouski. She holds a Ph.D. in oceanography and marine sciences from the University of Bordeaux in France. She is a specialist in coastal ocean chemistry and she has worked on the biogeochemical consequences of ocean warming, deoxygenation, and associated acidification along the St. Lawrence shores and in the Canadian Arctic for over the last 10 years. She is involved in several projects in Quebec and abroad focusing on organic alkalinity production and the impact on the buffering capacity of coastal waters. She leads projects on the role of coastal sediments as a buffer of bottom-water acidification. Since June 2023, she has been the Scientific Director of the Réseau Québec maritime (RQM), a collective infrastructure for the co-development of knowledge and innovation in the maritime field in Quebec that involves over 200 institutional members from the academic, governmental, non-governmental, industrial and community sectors. RQM places research at the core of blue innovation, towards collective change.
