Alex is CEO and co-founder of CERT Systems, a carbontech company that is transforming the way the world makes its most important chemicals. Alex has worked for over a decade developing novel energy and climate technologies. In his role as Director of Research and Partnerships at the University of Toronto, Alex raised over $20M to grow a research program in CO2 utilization. His work has been published in top scientific journals and has been cited over 8000 times.

In 2022, Alex was selected as an Innovator Fellow by the Bill Gates-led Breakthrough Energy Fellows program. He was selected as 2023 Clean50 Emerging Leader. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2015 with a focus on new solar materials, and a Bachelors of Applied Science in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University.
